Zambia Correctional Service (ZCS) Commissioner General Fredrick S. S. Chilukutu says the Service will comply with the law that requires all public relations practitioners to be licensed by the Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC).

ZIPRC has therefore pledged to work with ZCS in strengthening leadership communication and building the Service’s public image.

This was during a courtesy call on the ZCS in Lusaka 4thSeptember 2025 by a ZIPRC delegation led by Council Member and Director of Corporate Communication at the Independent Broadcasting Authority, Ms. Katendi Wandi.

Ms. Wandi said ZIPRC recognised the important role played by the Correctional Service in community safety and inmate rehabilitation, adding that communication capacity was key in improving institutional visibility.

“The Correctional Service is at the heart of reform and rehabilitation. For this work to be fully understood by the public, strong communication systems are required. As ZIPRC, we are ready to partner with the Service in building the right skills to support its mandate and vision,” she said.

During the meeting, the Correctional Service made a presentation on its mandate and programmes. These include:

• Agriculture production such as maize, poultry, fish farming and ranching.

• Industrial production in carpentry, metal fabrication, garment manufacturing and milling.

• Correctional programmes covering inmate education, skills training and counselling.

• Extension services that promote social reintegration, parole, restorative justice and counselling for ex-inmates.

ZCS further highlighted its contribution to government’s economic efforts through ventures like Kalonga Milling, carpentry and school desk production, as well as garment manufacturing in partnership with the private sector.

Other members of the ZIPRC delegation included Council Members Mr. Brian Hatyoka and Mr. Chanda Mubanga, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer Mr. Nimon Muleya, and Finance and Administration Officer Mr. Mwape Musonda.

The engagement formed part of ZIPRC’s stakeholder outreach strategy aimed at strengthening collaboration with national institutions and raising professional communication standards in the country. cross the public service.
