The Zambia Institute of Public Relations and Communication (ZIPRC) has welcomed the recent appointment of Principal Public Relations Officers in government ministries and provincial administrations. Speaking on the development, ZIPRC President Irene Chipili described the move as a commendable step towards enhancing communication and public engagement within government structures.

“This development aligns with the growing need for effective and strategic communication to foster transparency, accountability, and citizen participation,” said Ms. Chipili.

She further commended the Government for responding to ZIPRC’s long-standing call to elevate the Public Relations (PR) function to a decision-making level, a significant milestone for the profession.

However, Ms. Chipili expressed concern regarding the manner in which these appointments have been made, noting that certain aspects require urgent attention. “ZIPRC is engaging with relevant authorities to address these concerns to ensure that the appointments uphold professionalism and align with best practices,” she said.

The Institute reaffirmed its commitment to working collaboratively with the Government and stakeholders to raise the standards of public relations and communication practice in Zambia. “ZIPRC will continue to advocate for professionalism, ethical conduct, and capacity building to ensure public communication serves the interests of the citizens effectively,” Ms. Chipili added.

ZIPRC remains dedicated to strengthening the PR profession and ensuring its contribution to Zambia’s governance and development.
